Mental health Tanzania’s Organogram (authority/ leadership structure) according to NGO Act of 2002, amended on 2005 & 2019
MHT is registered as Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and is not for profit; Reg. Cert No 00NGO/R/1234 with the governance/ organogram structure guided by the NGO Act of 2002, amended on 2005 & 2019. Under this Act, MHT is obligated to create leadership and runs itself under the structured governance.
MHT is therefore governed by the following structure according to NGO Act of 2002, amended on 2005 & 2019: Annual General Meeting (AGM)-This is the highest authority of MHT in decision making and meet once a year.
The structure of the AGM includes chairperson, (who is then The President of MHT); Secretary, (who is then the General Secretary of MHT). Other members of the AGM include Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director; Chief Treasurer of MHT, Founding Members of MHT; active Ordinary Members joined to MHT as well as Honorary Members as honored by MHT.
MHT is also governed by the board as stated by the NGO Act of 2002, amended on 2005 & 2019 – known as Board of NGO/ Board of Mental Health Tanzania-to report to AGM and meet twice a year. The structure includes Board Chairperson-elected by AGM or board members; Board Secretary-who is then the president/ chairperson of MHT-according to NGO act of 2002, amended on 2005 & 2019. Other board members include: Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director, Chief Treasurer and other less or more than 5 members appointed by the board and approved by AGM.
Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director (CEO/MD). This is a chief staff / management of MHT. Thus, act as the secretary of the president / chairperson of MHT. Employed by the organization to lead other employees in the organization. Reports to the president / chairperson
Other leadership include General Secretary of MHT. This is obtained according to MHT constitution. This is the chief of all everyday organization activities and the chief leader of MHT staff and managements.
Chief Treasurer of MHT. This is obtained according to MHT constitution as well-to oversee all financial and MHT resources related matters assisted by accounts, audits, procurements officers etc. Other governance includes different Committees as well as Staff/ Managements from different MHT Departments.
Advisory Board Members at Mental Health Tanzania (MHT)
For a greater effectiveness and dedications, MHT traditionally embraces extra body to oversee the organization which is Advisory Board. Advisory Board Members are nominated by The Board of the organization of Mental Health Tanzania (MHT) and approved by General Meeting of MHT. This is external advisory committee, and it is a senior advisory board of MHT also known as Board of Advisory.
Some roles and responsibilities include but not limited to how the organization supervise, oversee, and manage the vision, mission, objectives, programs, projects, and activities. Moreover, to advise on the services delivered and partnership with other national and international institutions. To providing technical expertise or advice to specific area within the organization, advising in setting general organization goals. Advising on developing a governance system for the organization’s everyday business. Acting as the main advisor and counsel of the board of the organization as well as the president and his subordinates.
As a member of this board, is required to bring a much-needed perspectives to the work we do at the organization. Their presence in the organization helps to promote the programs we offer in our communities through the relevant mental wellbeing activities. The organization is grateful to these members who are willingly to share their experiences, energy time and their talents for the organization growth. It is a great pleasure to have them on board as part of the Mental Health Tanzania family. We are always happy to working together in promoting and advocating mental healthcare in Tanzania.
